aboutDan

Daniel Escobar, lpc

What is your educational background?

I received my bachelor’s degree in Medical Sciences and Psychology in 2012. I received my Master of Counseling in 2017 and I am a Licensed Professional Counselor.

What is your work experience?

For almost five years I worked at the local mental health authority, Integral Care, in various roles from being a crisis prevention specialist for those with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities to working with the Mobile Crisis Outreach Team and Psychiatric Emergency Services. Prior to this I worked at the Austin State Hospital.

I have been working as a therapist with Substance Use Therapy since the fall of 2020.

What is your rate?

A 50-minute session is $130.00.  I also maintain a set number of sliding scale slots for those that have the financial need. I am also in network with Optum/United Health/Oscar and Blue Cross Blue Shield insurance plans.

How do I reach you directly?

You can reach me at 512.200.2044 or send me an email at dan.escobar@substanceusetherapy.com. I look forward to hearing from you.

What interests you about substance use?

Substance use work is both challenging and intriguing. My stance on harm reduction is that it seems to be one of the most realistic approaches to substance use and I am eager to work collaboratively with people whose lives have been impacted by substance use.

What other areas of expertise do you have?

I have many years of experience with the LGBTQ+ population as a gay male and as a clinician.  Working to support this population to better express themselves and find their identity has been an incredible experience.  Supprting the LGBTQ+ population in navigating substance use issues is an area of work that I enjoy.

Group therapy, supporting teenagers on the autism spectrum, anxiety, crisis management, and anger management are also areas in which I have had the opportunity to work in.

Helping people to develop and hone coping skills to better manage the stresses of life is something I am passionate about.

What is your approach to therapy?

I am a firm believer of person-centered treatment and I have a background in cognitive behavioral and solution focused therapy. I also offer EMDR therapy.

I like to boil it down to what each person needs and building on unique strengths and interests.

Ok, how about some random facts about yourself…

I was a Boy Scout throughout my childhood and early adult life and I still love camping, being a unique character and wilderness survival. This makes me a big fan of traveling and seeing new things. I also used to be an EMT, a server/bartender and a brand promotion specialist so I like to think I have somewhat of an eclectic background.
